In January 2025, Ondřej will give premiere performances to Britta Byström’s new opera The Play of the Night. Written to the libretto of Britta’s fellow Swede Peter Bäckström, the opera will be performed with students and orchestra from the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen.
The libretto takes inspiration from Homer’s Odysseus and portrays Penelope’s mostly-psychological journey of waiting for her husband Odysseys. Will she give in to one of the many suitors, as advised by some of the Greek goddesses? Will she remain faithful to the man whom she has not seen for twenty years, as encouraged by other Greek goddesses? Come and find out in one of the four performances on 20th and 21st January 2025.
